Design and produce something with a digital fabrication process (incorporating computer-aided design and manufacturing).
Do everything necessary to reproduce it. Possibilities include (but are not limited to) composites, textiles, biotechnology, robotics, and cooking.
Composites are made by layering up different materials which in turn will produce a much stronger material than the original material. Materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties that, when combined, produce a material with characteristics different from the individual components. The individual components remain separate and distinct within the finished structure, differentiating composites from mixtures and solid solutions.
The new material may be preferred for many reasons: common examples include materials which are stronger, lighter, or less expensive when compared to traditional materials.More recently, researchers have also begun to actively include sensing, actuation, computation and communication into composites, which are known as Robotic Materials.
Reinforced concrete and masonry
Composite wood such as plywood
Reinforced plastics, such as fibre-reinforced polymer or fiberglass
Ceramic matrix composites (composite ceramic and metal matrices)
Metal matrix composites, etc.[wiki]
For this week I decided to make a watch strap using linen fabric and epoxy resin
I have designed my watch in fusion.
I decided to use the laser cutter for creating my mold.
I used laser cutter to cut my fabric.
I layed the fabric on the laser cutter bed and focused with the focusing tool
i kept the origin few distance away from the corners. This helped me to get a flat surface.
setting was like a trail and error while cutting the fabric.
After all my trails, the pieces was cutted perfectly.
I used aditya silicon rubber RTV and it having mixing ratio of 100A:40B and the curing time is about 24 hrs.
ADITYA SILICONE RUBBER RTV – 1010 is a condensation cure type Silicone Rubber. It comes in 2 parts. One is Silicone Rubber and second is Curing Agent. >Curing Agent is mixed into Silicone Rubber in a given ratio. (40-50 ml i 1kg of silicone)It cures at room temperature.
> Specially created Silicone Rubber to make molds of Murties, Statues, Crafts, POP Cornices, Medallions and items which have deep under cuts.
> Low Viscosity
> Low hardness
> Easy demoulding
> Can be made paste to apply with brush also
> Viscosity - .10000 Pi
> Curing Agent / Hardener Ratio 4 %
> Curing Time - 6 Hours
> Colour - Milky
First place the glass on the weight scale and re calibrate to set that as zero.
Then measure 100 gm part A and then set the scale to zero again .Now measure 40 gm of part B on the same galss. Mix the silicon thoroughly.
Gently soak the fabric in the silicon and lay alternatively .
Compression molding is accomplished by placing the plastic material (can be a granular or pelletized form) in a mold cavity to be formed by heat and pressure. The heat and pressure force the materials into all areas of the mold. The heat and pressure cycle of the process will harden the material and then it can be removed.
During the composite method process in lab, compression molding is carried out for removing the excess resin.
In my watch making process thick silicon band is needed for my watch strap.
Therefor removal of excess material process was avoided.Normal room temperature was used for silicon curing.
After 24 hour for the composit to cure, I Carefully remove the composit from the mold.
